The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary and the Minnesota School of Botanical Art are pleased to announce their joint sponsorship of a program to create a florilegium to document the unique and special plants in the Garden. A florilegium is a collection of artworks depicting plants that provides a visual historical record of flora found in a specific location. The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, is the oldest public wildflower garden in the United States and encompasses fifteen acres of woodland, wetland and prairie ecosystems. The Minnesota School of Botanical Art, also located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was founded in 2001 and is dedicated to furthering the tradition of botanical art through art education that combines both the scientific and the aesthetic in drawing and painting.

Artists may choose to submit their work to a jury that will determine which paintings will be accepted into the florilegium collection by submitting a written entry form and release. Those who do so must agree that, if their work is selected for inclusion in the florilegium, they will donate the painting to the Garden and relinquish all ownership rights to the work. However, both the School and the individual artist may reproduce an image of the artwork on their websites and in personal biographies. The Garden and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will maintain the paintings under permanent archival conditions and will hold regular exhibits of the works; transfer of ownership of the artworks outside of the Garden/Park and Recreation Board will not be permitted.
